Patterns are a set of fundamental techniques against an imaginary opponent or opponents.
We
practice patterns to develop stronger kicks, punches, strikes and
blocks, as well as improve balance, regulate breathing while exercising
and to refine stances.
There are 24
official Taekwondo patterns, one to represent each hour of the day, or
a complete cycle.
In addition to the official 24 patterns, there are a number of exercises (a set of fundamental techniques but without interpretation).
The numbers in parenthesis next to the pattern links denote the number of moves in that pattern.
*Actually there are 25 patterns, Ko-Dang was replaced by Juche for political reasons - ask an instructor!
