Murrays Taekwondo

We are an independent Taekwondo club based at the University of Leeds, and a member of the Independent Martial Arts Sports Association (IMASA). Our syllabus is regularly reviewed and updated but is essentially based on the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) syllabus. We have a team of very experienced instructors from diverse backgrounds that not only bring with them their extensive experience in competitive Taekwondo (Ex-World Champion, British Champions and Ex-National Team Members), but also from Krav Maga (self-defence), Kick Boxing and Tang Soo Do and also from Prisoner Custody, Close Personal Protection (bodyguard) and door security staff.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that involves fitness and flexibility training, proven self defence techniques, set forms called patterns, sparring using hand and kicking techniques and also destruction (breaking).

Our aim is to provide each student with a safe environment in which to learn new skills and develop fitness and confidence.

We are often asked, "How long does it take to acheive a Black Belt?", the answer is that we provide a core syllabus that would take an individual 3 years to achieve Black belt status. Of course this will depend upon the individuals committment to their training. It takes patience, dedication and plenty of practice to become a Black Belt.

However, once an individual has acheived a Black Belt, training continues into an extended syllabus that can see progression from Novice Black Belt to Expert Black Belt and onto Master and Grand Master.
